Boston, MA - June 29, 2023 - What does the Supreme Court's historic decision severely restricting race as a factor in college admissions mean for the future of affirmative action? "Community Conversation: Race and College Admissions," a special GBH News broadcast, will provide a platform for experts, journalists, educators, students and the public to engage in an in-depth exploration of the complex issues surrounding race and college admissions.

GBH News journalists Callie Crossley and Arun Rath will host this special broadcast on Friday, June 30, at 7 pm on the GBH News YouTube channel, 89.7 FM, and at gbhnews.org. They will be joined by GBH News higher education reporter Kirk Carapezza, who has spent years reporting on the possibility of this decision. Underscoring this issue's impact on higher education, one of the most prominent industries in Massachusetts, the hour-long special will be carried by GBH partners CAI, the Cape, Coast and Islands NPR Station and NEPM in Western Massachusetts live on each outlet's website. The stations will also carry the broadcast on the radio at later dates.

“The implications of today's SCOTUS decision has the potential to significantly impact not only our large student population but also many families, businesses, and institutions across the Commonwealth," said Lee Hill, executive editor of GBH News. "We want to bring the audience together to explore the implications of this landmark decision and exchange perspectives through a nuanced and thoughtful conversation.”

"Community Conversation: Race and College Admissions" will welcome calls and questions from the community and those who are impacted by the decision on race-based admissions. Those interested in participating should join us on our GBH News YouTube channel or call or text 877-301-8970 as the show airs.
